Plot Synopsis[]
Part One[]
It has been more than a month since the coterie last gathered. The original 3 convene at the sanctum at GriffithCollege. X arrives. He brings an offer from Therese, the Baron of Santa Monica. She wants to establish a club in The Valley, a branch of The Asylum. X calls it “Asylum 2 Electric Bugaloo”. Victor declines, saying he would rather make his own and name it “Maharani” meaning the Queen. Nelli likes that.
Jasper shifts their attention to an old friend; Éva requested the Coterie’s presence at Griffith Observatory. Remembering how poorly that went last time, and rumors of Lupines in that area, they take stock of their weapons; Jasper has a ceremonial silver dagger, Victor has the stolen inquisition gun plus a rifle with silver bullets, and Nelli has her usual fare. X has his ability to run and hide.
This group gets in the car. Ib is not driving tonight as she is away on business in Chicago. X and Nelli discuss ghosts, and the drive is otherwise uneventful. They arrive at Griffith Observatory. Eva meets them at the door. She asks Victor for a boon; San Diego kindred of her clan are coming to LA. A coterie called “The Wyrd Sisters”. They need somewhere to stay. Somewhere to hunt. She was hoping, with Victor’s permission, that it could be the Valley. Victor permits this despite a past rudeness of Eva’s. He agrees to house them at the Maharajah club.
Before they depart, X asks Éva about ghosts. Nelli activates Sense the Unseen and sees a female ghost behind Éva. She looks eerily like Nelli. Eva then says “Antonio” is coming to Nelli’s confusion. She turns and sees a male ghost approaching the driver. She and Victor race towards him. The ghost possesses the driver and shoots at Nelli. He misses on the first shot, but gets her on the 2nd and 3rd. Victor attempts to talk him down. After making sure Eva is safe, as she drinks a potion and floats 10 feet in the air, Jasper leaps in and slams the driver’s head into the car. X gets into the driver’s seat of the car.
The ghost leaves the driver’s body. It is a man in 19th century fashion. He backs off and heads to the tree line. X opens the car windows and encourages everyone to get in. Eva declines, and asks Nelli if she is going to abandon the female ghost. She offers to send the ghost to find her. Nelli agrees. Eva then offers X a potion of sight if he can arrange a meeting for her with Jeanette. He agrees. Victor and Jasper get in the car and X speeds them to the Maharajah.
Part Two[]
At the club, the driver receives medical attention. X and Nelli each take an employee to satisfy their hunger. Nelli drinks hers dry, killing him. Victor and Jasper arrive to do damage control. X suggests faking a murder. Victor wants to help but he insists he can’t unless Nelli tells him what is going on. She does not know. The female ghost arrives.
Using the potion Eva gave him, X is able to impart sight to Victor and Jasper. The ghost introduces herself as Pertanilla Feliz. The other ghost, Antonio, was her uncle. She and her family are eternally waiting for something. Antonio has grown restless and believes killing Nelli will end this curse. The Coterie learns that Pertanilla is a distant ancestor of Nelli’s. She warns that Nelli must deal with Antonio or he will deal with her. Pertanilla does not make it clear but something was stolen from their family that caused this curse. Xander inquires how possession works and if she could possess the dead body. She assures him she can not possess anything dead. Undead she is not sure of and successfully possesses Nelli.
Pertanilla confirms Antonio can not leave Griffith unless he is possessing someone. He will find a way to get Nelli even if she never returns to Griffith Observatory.
Victor worries that the Wyrd sisters haven’t shown up yet. Eva calls him and confirms his suspicions; the Sisters were stopped by the police at The Grove. Frustrated, Victor speeds downstairs to get a car and go fix this. He yells at X, but calms down when Nelli starts acting like her old self. X drives and the Coterie heads to the Grove.
Endcap[]
Jasper’s former girlfriend, Chloe, investigates the holes in his disappearance and death. She suspects he faked his own death but is not sure. She knows it has something to do with Griffith College.
